On Wednesday 16th September 2015, the Bury office’s ‘Pig Racing’ evening took place in aid of the St Nicholas Hospice Accumulator Challenge.

The event raised £1,035 and the total has been added to as Henry Wood kindly baked a fruit cake for staff in return of donations which raised £18 and Angela Offley produced Bacon Rolls for breakfast on Tuesday 24th which added £50 to the total.

It has been Ensors sixth year in supporting the challenge which Henry Wood notes as “a record we can take some pride in”.

The idea of the pig racing stemmed from Ensors 2011 victory for ‘Most Unusual Fundraising Award’, which was given after the first time the ‘Pig Racing’ event was held. In order to run the event for the third time, the Stowmarket Lions club kindly supplied the equipment – but of course lions and pigs would not be a good mix! So all was not as it seemed, the torrential rain and concerns over animal welfare did not have an affect as the 30 guests arrived, indoors, to see toy battery powered pigs!

The attendees were invited to take bets on the pigs racing down a track, with the winner being the first pig with its nose in the trough at the end of the course. There were six races that took place throughout the evening and guests enjoyed refreshments that fulfilled the pig theme; pork rolls served with apple sauce and stuffing.

The Bury office would like to thank the guests for their support and all the volunteers that helped to make this a successful event that succeeded the fundraising task.

The Accumulator Challenge will conclude with a presentation ceremony in October to award a number of prizes including the most money raised and most innovative idea – so fingers crossed for Ensors!
