Legal Entity Identifier (LEIs)

Charities which employ investment managers that trade in investments on their behalf will need to acquire an LEI code before the end of 2017.

An LEI code is a unique international identifying code which identifies separate legal entities that engage in financial investments. From January 2018, investment managers based in the UK will not be able to undertake investment transactions on behalf of businesses and charities that do not have an LEI code.

If you employ or use the services of an investment manager then you are likely to need to obtain an LEI code. Your investment managers may offer to obtain an LEI for you. If not then you will be able to get one through the London Stock Exchange Group. Please click here to view a guide on how to search and request an LEI code.
