Following the career path of Amy Haines

Amy joined Ensors as a student accountant straight from school in August 2003 and, having passed her exams with flying colours, is now Manager in charge of the Business Support Services department in Bury St Edmunds. Here we find out a bit more about Amy – why she chose to go into accountancy as a career and who she’d invite for dinner.

Why did you choose to go into accountancy?

Throughout school I was always quite good with numbers so it just seemed like the natural path!

What do you really enjoy about your job?

The variety. Every day is different as we have such a diverse client base. I really enjoy getting to know new clients, and keeping in touch with those that have been with Ensors as long as I have! I also work with a brilliant team. We have great fun together!

What was your first day at work like?

I remember being very quiet and incredibly nervous, but everyone was so welcoming and I soon settled in. I don’t think anyone would call me quiet now!

If you had to do something different and money and skill was no object, what would you do?

Definitely something with animals – perhaps a zookeeper or running an animal rehoming centre.

If you could invite any 3 people to dinner who would they be and why?

That’s easy. Stephen Fry, Alan Carr and Jamie Oliver. A great mix of intellectual debate, humour and, of course, fab food. Goes without saying that Jamie would cook the dinner!

What’s your favourite TV programme?

I love old Only Fools and Horses re-runs, or anything with a bit of mystery. Sherlock is a particular favourite and I loved the New Year special.
