The site now occupied by our Ipswich office was once home to the Hippodrome theatre; a hugely successful and majestic theatre during the first half of the 1900’s which brought glitz and glamour to Ipswich. Some major talent swept through the doors including Gracie Fields, Marie Lloyd, Little Titch and George Formby to name but a few. And it was not just singing acts who trod the boards here - the ‘Queen of Striptease’ Phyllis Dixey with her tantalising fans, Charlie Chapman, Old Mother Riley, Peter Sellers, Samson the Strong Man and many other well-known exotic, circus, dance and comedic acts of the day.
The Hippodrome was rebuilt in the mid 1980’s and we took residence in 1986, naming the building after the famous Ipswich son, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, who was born just over the road. A few of the original features of the Hippodrome have been retained including the plaster cast masks that look down on you as you enter the building and several photographs and memorabilia that proudly adorn the walls.
