Welcome - Ian Brookman

As I write this the Chancellor has just announced the £500 billion (including direct investment and liquidity schemes) rescue plan for British banks which, more importantly, will hopefully stabilise the whole British economy.

In our discussions with clients the general economic sentiment changed very markedly around June from ‘it’s going to be difficult’ to ‘its going to be very tough over the next 18 months or so’.

To assist businesses address the issues that will arise from this period of recession we are offering a fixed price review of key operational areas to identify any areas of concern. Further details can be found at http://www.ensors.co.uk/site/business/businessrecovery/ or speak to your usual Ensors contact.

The firm is pleased to announce that David Scrivener (Director of Corporate Finance) and Robert Leggett (Director of Corporate and Business Tax) have become partners with effect from 1 October 2008. Both David and Robert trained with the firm and it is really good news to see home grown talent progress to partnership.

Despite all the doom and gloom, we recruited 9 school leavers and graduates this summer to start their training as accountants and tax advisers. Of our existing students 95% passed the examinations they sat in the summer, which is a great endorsement of our ongoing commitment to training.

It is not only students who pass exams and I am pleased to announce Helen Rumsey the partner who leads our Charities team has recently passed the specialist Diploma in Charity Accounting (DChA) administered by The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Any recession will hopefully be short lived and as a continuation of our development of our presence in Cambridgeshire we are pleased to announce Sarah Healey Pearce joins our Corporate Finance team. Sarah comes from another local practice and will continue our approach of looking to service transactions for local independent businesses.

Last, but by no means least, on the back page of this edition of Eplus we highlight some of the community work carried out by the Ensors team when they are away from the office.

At the end of the welcome article last time, I wished you a sunny and prosperous summer, given my lack of success in forecasting the summer, I will try again by this time wishing you an enjoyable Christmas and New Year!
