The coming changes to employees' tax-free allowances should not affect small businesses too much, an expert has said.
That is the view which has been expressed by the Chartered Institute of Taxation this week, which believes that the changes should not cause too many problems for payroll departments.
The increase in the basic personal allowance from £5,435 to £6,035 is set to come into effect on 7 September.
John Whiting, chair of the management taxes committee at the CIOT, said: "It should be fairly straightforward and that is really why it has taken until now to put into effect."
"Fingers crossed, the net effect is that employers should find it quite easy to do and just part of the normal PAYE."
Mr Whiting also admitted that although the process is relatively simple, it was a hassle that most small businesses did not need.
According to the Institute of Fiscal Studies, 5.3 million families were left worse off due to the abolition of the 10p tax rate.
