Team Talk

James Francis - Director

James Francis has joined the Ensors Medical and Corporate teams in Cambridgeshire having worked most recently with Baker Tilly.  He started his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2000, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2004 and has spent his entire working life supporting businesses throughout the eastern region.

Why did you choose to go into Accountancy?
I realised at University that there was no money in professional rugby (apart from a free bar!) and as I had always enjoyed anything to do with numbers throughout my schooling, accountancy gave me the opportunity to continue with this in a more practical (and useful) way.

What do you really enjoy about your job?
The fact that each day is different, with different clients in different sectors facing different issues. Being able to provide solutions to businesses and see them grow over the years is immensely rewarding.

What is the most unusual task you have been asked to carry out at work?
In a former job I had to go and visit a random sample of pensioners at their places of residence on behalf of a large pension scheme.  The purpose of the visit was to ensure that they were still alive, could prove who they said they were and were therefore entitled to draw their pension accordingly.

If you had to do something different and money and skill was no object, what would you do?
Play sport professionally, preferably rugby.

If you could invite any 3 people to dinner who would they be and why?
Sir Ian Botham
Jason Leonard
Sir Tom Walkinshaw
All three people had been at the top of their game over an extended period of time, so the stories they could tell would make dinner merely a sideshow.
